Are you starting to feel the stress levels rising as Christmas approaches? So much to do, so much to think about with the added worry of an ever circulating virus which could stop Christmas in its tracks before it even gets started. Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy, relaxation and happiness but all too often it is easy to start to feel overwhelmed and lacking in festive cheer. Well fret not, here are a few tips which will allow you to enjoy a festive season your mind, body and soul will thank you for.
Keep things in Perspective
Don’t aim for perfection just aim to do the best you can. By putting too much pressure on yourself from the start you will be increasing your stress levels and heading towards feeling burnt out and exhausted over Christmas which is not something you or anyone else wants, so be realistic about how much you can do.
Make a Plan
By making a plan in advance of some of the things you need to do it helps to keep you organised and avoids the panic of having too much to do at the last minute, which can put your stress levels through the roof and definitely take the fun out of Christmas.
Stress-free Gifts
If you never know what to buy people and find yourself spending hours roaming around the shops or surfing the internet only to find that your well wrapped gift isn’t really appreciated, then keep it simple this year with gift experiences or gift vouchers. This makes it easier for you, better for the other person as the gift is more flexible and is often better for the planet as less packaging and gift wrapping involved. You could even consider supporting an Environmental or Animal Charity by purchasing a virtual adopt/foster an animal gift for younger ones.
Festive Food Tips
If you are at home for Christmas and doing a lot of the cooking then plan what you need in advance or get your Christmas shopping order in early so you are not rushing around at the last minute. Maybe you can prepare a few things in advance too. Try to keep it healthy and cruelty-free which is better for you and the planet, not to mention the turkeys. Also include plenty of fresh foods and healthy snacks so you can alternate with the festive calorie laden treats!
Be Kind to Yourself
On the build up to Christmas it is all too easy to put yourself at the bottom of the list. Remember to take time for yourself and take a break when you need it. This is so important and often overlooked as you may feel you don’t have time. Get some fresh air, go for a walk in nature or do some gentle yoga, meditate, soak in an aromatic bath, watch your favourite movie, read a book or magazine, get creative and do something you enjoy, it all goes along way to protecting your health and wellbeing and keeping stress at bay.
Have a Mindful Christmas
Lastly remember to be in the present moment. Enjoy your Christmas by truly experiencing it with all your senses.
